By now you know that our plans are ALWAYS changing not because we change them, but because the army changes them for us. I think that just when Jeremy is starting to enjoy his job, something happens and he is frustrated with the army all over again...which is why he is getting out in 3 years after he gets some extra qualifications, certifications, and experience that will help him find a government job. Jeremy really does enjoy being in the military, and it does have good benefits, but it does get hard. Obviously the deployments are hard, but the ever changing part is pretty complicated too. We have been planning since last year for him to attend OCS around the end of this year (and I was temporarily going back to Arkansas to wait). He submitted his packet in January from Iraq and he heard back from them immediately, they needed one more paper from him and everything was good. They were sending the packet back to him and he was to add the paper and send it back to them again (he is in Iraq they are in Virginia). So instead of waiting on the packet, he submitted a new complete one all together to expedite the process. Everything would have been fine if his coworkers in Iraq would have done their job and sent that packet off, but they DIDN'T DO IT. Basically, they didn't get in a hurry and brought his packet to Hawaii with them 2 months later and sent it. Jeremy had been checking with them frequently while they were in Iraq and they assured him that they had done their part and that all he could do was wait. He went to check on the status when we got in from Arkansas and they told him, "oh by the way we need a picture of you in your class a's (formal type of uniform) for your packet". He said, "no you don't, because the packet was submitted in Iraq". The rule is that if you are deployed, no picture is required. That is when he found out that his packet was rejected again because there was no picture because the guys sent it in late March from Hawaii. They actually handed him his packet back while he was standing there. If you know Jeremy, you can probably imagine how the next part went...many words explaining to them in detail why they suck at life. Anyway, The board for OCS met in April and obviously Jeremy's packet didn't make it. They don't meet again until August, which is too far away for us because by the time he would be finishing OCS he has already done an extra year and a half in the army(of course we don't want that). Interesting how a couple of guys can mold an entire career path for someone. We know it was for a reason though, we just don't know that reason right now.
So what was our plan B? He is re classing to a non-combative position in logistics (or something like that...hey I'm doing my best to keep any of this straight). He has to go to a shorter school in Virginia for almost 2 months this summer. While he is at school, me and little Jack will be hanging out here in Hawaii. My grandparents are coming out and mom will be out here too (she will be here Tuesday and she is coming again in August) and also maybe Brian and Ashley will make it out. We will be getting orders around August for our new duty station and moving around late September....unless that second OCS packet floating around out there in army land somehow made it through, in that case you tell me whats going on because I will be giving up :)
If you skipped all that I don't blame you!! The important part is that we will be closer to home, on the mainland by October and Jeremy is scheduled to get out in June 2012.
I don't mind changes, I have been trying to enjoy this crazy ride, but every now and then you want OFF the roller coaster.
